mechanical room safety equipment.
PART I. -- GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
- Drawings and general provision of the contract including general and supplementary conditions and Division I specifications section, apply to this section.
1.2 SUMMARY
- This section specifies refrigeration safety equipment including the following:
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
1.3 SUBMITTALS
- Product Data: Submit product data, including furnished specialties and accessories, and installation instructions.
- Quality Control Submittals
- Submit certification of compliance with NIOSH and MSHA requirements specified in Quality Assurance below.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Regulatory Requirements:
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus: Complies with National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and Mine Safety and Health Administration.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
- Deliver components as complete units with Manufacturers original packaging intact.
PART 2 -- PRODUCTS
2.1 SELF CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS
- General: Provide and mount outside each Chiller Room, at each entrance, an open-circuit self-contained breathing apparatus for use by building operating personnel in an emergency situation. Install units in a properly labeled wall storage cabinet.
- Approvals
- The apparatus shall be certified by NIOSH/MSHA as conforming to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, part 84, therefore meeting OSHA requirements.
- Cylinder
- The cylinder shall meet or exceed DOT specifications, and have a working pressure of 2216 psig. The 30-minute cylinder shall be aluminum. Each 30-minute cylinder shall have a water capacity of 523 cubic inches and a free gas capacity of 45 cubic feet.
- Valve Assembly
- The cylinder valve outlet shall be a modification of Compressed Gas Association (CGA) 346 or (CGA) 347 threaded connection. The cylinder valve is also equipped with a dual-sided pressure gauge, which indicates cylinder pressure (psi) at all times.
- Face Assembly
- The facepiece assembly shall accommodate a wide range of facial shapes and sizes. The panaseal or Panavisor positive pressure facemasks feature a hypoallergenic Neoprene inner and outer mask with reflex seal. The facepiece visor is made of a scratch and impact resistant polycarbonate material, which provides excellent panoramic vision. The visor shall be held in place by two U-shaped clamps, which protect the visor from abrasion, when lying on a flat surface. The mask will allow the wearer to wear integrated spectacle frames, without compromising the facemask seal. The mask can be adjusted to the wearer's head by means of a five-point, fully adjustable neoprene strap style harness, or a two-point adjustable net style harness.
- The mask will feature a front mounted speech diaphragm with a side mounted second stage regulator, for reduced profile and unimpeded speech transmission. The mask will feature a low resistance positive pressure exhalation valve, which allows you to breathe normally, with no extra effort.
- First Stage Pressure Reducer
- The first stage pressure reducer shall be mounted on the rear, lower portion of the backframe. The pressure reducer shall be of a fail-safe spring-loaded piston design, with an internal pressure relief valve, consisting of only two moving parts. The reducer shall be completely automatic, low maintenance and require no calibration.
- The reducer shall have flow characteristics that exceed 22.8 cfm (650 liters/min) and protected by a pressure relieve valve that operates between 195 and 210 psi.
- The pressure reducer shall incorporate an internal flow restrictor leading to the gauge supply hose that will limit the airflow to 0.6 cfm, preventing rapid air loss should the gauge supply hose be severed or damaged.
- Second Stage Regulator
- The positive pressure second stage regulator utilizes a unique servo-assisted tilting diaphragm mechanism, which provides a peak flow in excess of 17.6 CFM (500 liters/min), while maintaining a static positive pressure of 0.02-0.05 psi inside the facepiece. The second stage regulator shall connect to the facepiece via a bayonet fitting on the left-hand side of the facemask.
- The regulator features an automatic first breath mechanism, which prevents the loss of air during the donning procedure.
- The regulator is to be equipped with a bypass valve, which when rotated to the on position, provides a constant flow of air 5.3 CFM (150 liters/min) to the facepiece. The bypass is a safety feature that provides a constant flow of air to the wearer in the event that the regulator malfunctions, and also serves as a purge valve to depressurize the pneumatic system.
- Harness & Backframe Assembly
- The backframe is manufactured from lightweight composite material, consisting of a glass and carbon-filled nylon composite, which are both anti-static and non-conductive. The backframe shall include recessed channels along the inside, which channel the low-pressure and high-pressure hoses, to prevent snagging. The backframe shall include a lumbar pad of a closed-cell type preventing moisture retention.
- The harness is manufactured from flame-retardant polyester webbing, and features corrosion resistant polyamide buckles. The harness shall include a fully adjustable waist belt, with quick release nylon buckles and two shoulder straps
- The cylinder is held onto the backframe by a Kevlartm arimid fiber webbing cylinder band, with an over-center latching buckle molded in glass filled polyamide. A spring-loaded locking catch prevents accidental opening. The cylinder band shall secure 30, 45, or 60-minute cylinders. The cylinder valve fits through a support (spoon) at the lower end of the backframe, which also secures the cylinder to the backframe.
- Pressure Gauge & Warning Device
- The pneumatic system shall be equipped with a remote pressure gauge with a retro-reflective dial. The pressure indicator shall be a bourdon tube device that monitors cylinder pressure at the input of the first stage pressure reducer.
- The pressure gauge shall be equipped with a blowout vent, to prevent over-pressurization of the case, and a rubber shroud for impact protection.
- The gauge shall be equipped with a warning device (whistle), which will sound an alarm when the cylinder pressure drops to between 23 -- 27% of the rated duration of the cylinder.
- Wallmount Cabinet
- A molded wallmount case shall be provided to retain the complete apparatus and instruction card or booklet.
- Warranty
- The unit shall be covered by a six year warranty.
